POWER distributor Manila Electric Company asked the public to again conserve electricity.
This is after the Luzon Grid was again laced on Yellow Alert today, June 3.
Meralco again asked participants of the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) to prepare for possible de-loading in case the situation escalates to Red Alert.
This means possible power outages if the ILP is implemented.
"We also urge the public to keep on practicing energy efficiency to help manage the demand," Meralco Spokesperson and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary updates if needed,” he added.
The Luzon Grid will be on yellow alert from 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. on June 3, due to forced outage and derated capacity of some plants, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
This comes as some 2,692.8 megawatts were unavailable to the grid, as two plants have been on forced outage since 2023, two between January and March 2024, and 12 between April and May, while six were running on derated capacities.
A yellow alert indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
