THE Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has secured commitments from Pioneer Float Glass Manufacturing, Inc. and Anglo Watsons Glass, Inc. for additional capacity under the government’s Interruptible Load Program (ILP).

Following the power distributor’s proactive calls for more ILP participants to help manage demand in the Luzon Grid, Pioneer Float Glass is set to sign an agreement for a two-megawatt (MW) de-loading capacity that will come from its manufacturing plant in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

During the Red Alerts in April when the available supply in the grid was insufficient to meet the power demand, Pioneer Float Glass voluntarily participated in the ILP without compensation, de-loading a total of 1.5 MW that helped avert rotational power interruptions.

As the biggest float glass manufacturer in the Philippines, the company continues to lead by example, showcasing its capability to manage energy consumption, while demonstrating bayanihan.

Also responding to the call for more ILP participants was Anglo Watsons, which has yet to finalize their enrollment but voluntarily de-loaded 1.3 MW during the Red Alert on May 28, 2024. Once fully enrolled, it will contribute a total of 2.3-MW of de-loading capacity from its facility in Calamba, Laguna.
