Misamis Occidental province saw a 216-percent spike in tourist arrivals, driven by the recent opening of the Panguil Bay Bridge on Sept. 27, officials said Thursday.
During the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting in Oroquieta City, Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. highlighted the significant increase in visitors during the bridge’s first weekend of operation, with 2,119 arrivals compared to the previous weekly average of 670.
"The Panguil Bay Bridge is a testament to the region's dedication to progress, connecting Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental, while enhancing economic integration, transportation, and tourism opportunities," Oaminal said.
He added that the bridge has become a catalyst for economic growth and a showcase of the province’s commitment to improving infrastructure and accessibility.
Oaminal also underscored Northern Mindanao’s achievements in linking communities through infrastructure projects and implementing social programs to assist vulnerable populations.
