SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro — Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced the construction of a 5,000-pallet-position mega cold storage facility worth P500 million in San Jose town to help stabilize prices and supply of agricultural products.
“By July, after the bid out, we might be able to award the mega cold storage in San Jose for our vegetable producers and frozen products. This is world-class and spacious, so when we award this in July, it will be operational by June next year,” Laurel said during his visit in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on June 2.
The P500 million project aims to offer a solution to the low prices of commodities during surplus and prevent excess produce from going to waste.
The facility will also act as a trading center, and a KADIWA will be placed to provide marketing assistance.
This project is one of the government’s initiatives under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to boost farmers’ livelihoods and ensure food security in the country.
