Completion of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines’ P3.72-billion Luzon distribution terminal in Batangas in the second quarter of next year is seen not only to boost jobs but support the Philippine government’s sustainability goals.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said completion of the distribution terminal in Calaca, Batangas is expected to generate around 26,000 direct and indirect jobs.

It also noted that the expansion bid supports the rising demand for cement since the terminal will raise the subsidiary's production capacity to 4 million tons per year, with product offerings that include a cement manufactured with the use of recycled materials like fly ash and slag.

“Taiheiyo’s contributions go beyond production, as this project exemplifies the type of investment that Bagong Pilipinas champions: one that creates jobs, drives innovation, and supports our sustainability goals,” the press release said.

The expansion plan is part of the firm’s P21-billion investment program.

The company, which has around 40 percent domestic market share, is a subsidiary of Taiheiyo Cement Corporation, Japan’s largest cement manufacturer.

“As infrastructure continues to be a pillar of national growth, industry leaders like Taiheiyo will be at the forefront of helping us meet both current and future demand,” Special Trade Representative Dita Angara-Mathay, the commercial counselor of the DTI field office in Tokyo, said.
