BUTUAN CITY – A total of 452 youths -- 80 graduates and 372 students of Caraga State University (CSU) here -- benefited from the cash-for-work (CFW) program under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services.

DSWD-13 (Caraga) said P5.4 million were released to the beneficiaries over the weekend, following 50 days of work at various CSU offices, local government units and the agency.

“This is a short-term employment initiative that provided both financial and meaningful work opportunities for college students and graduates,” the DSWD-13 said.

The CFW also served as a platform for young people to gain skills, contribute to their communities and prepare for future employment.

The agency reported that some of the graduates achieved employment after the CFW program, with six of them hired and absorbed as contractors at the CSU and four others recommended for employment to DSWD.

Additionally, nine students were hired as student assistants at the offices where they provided 50 days of service.

A beneficiary with disability, Jimarie Escobido, successfully completed her tasks at CSU.

“My disability never became a hindrance in my work under the program. It also helped sharpen my skills and overcome my doubts and fears,” Escobido, as quoted in the DSWD news release, said.

Another beneficiary, Leizel Galindo, said the CFW gave her hope despite personal struggles.

“It was more than just a source of income. For me, it was a lifeline. A chance to rebuild my life, to regain my confidence,” Galindo said.
