MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Two provincial and local chief executives of Pangasinan thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for restoring local government unit (LGU) clearance as a safeguard for infrastructure projects.

Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino said it is a welcome development as LGUs have better knowledge about the situation on the ground and the needs of the people.

"We are very grateful to the President as he once again acknowledges the LGUs' role in supervising and monitoring projects being implemented in their jurisdiction, be it by the national, local, or private entity," he said in an interview on Monday.

Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario, who is also the provincial president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, said the move will be helpful in the implementation of projects.

"If they involve us, all the more that we will have an idea especially on the program of works up to the completed project. This is very much A a welcome undertaking of our President," he said in a separate interview.

Rosario said it would promote a healthy check and balance on infrastructure projects, as there are capable LGU engineers who can supervise and monitor projects.

Marcos announced on Monday that LGU clearance will once again be required before national infrastructure projects are considered complete.

The President added that local officials are in the best position to verify whether the infrastructure is built according to standard.
