For nearly a decade, World Vision Philippines has been a committed partner in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), undertaking programs designed to uplift children, youth, and women.
In a recent episode of the PIA-12’s ‘Talakayang Dose’ radio program, Elizabeth Delgado, operations manager of the World Vision Philippines Mindanao Field Office, highlighted the crucial importance of collaboration for the success of programs implemented in the region.
She highlighted the organization’s strong collaboration with local government units (LGUs), national line agencies, and the BARMM government to empower local communities.
“We work hand-in-hand with the government and various LGUs wherever we operate. The local government is our primary partner, along with all sectors related to our advocacies,” Delgado told PIA.
“Partnership is essential in fulfilling our mandate, and in bringing the ‘fullness of life’ to every child,” she added.
A key focus of the organization’s efforts in BARMM is the incorporation of peace education into both schools and communities.
In Cotabato City, these programs specifically equip youth to serve as “agents of peace.”
Recognizing that peace is a cultivated way of life, the organization—a Christian NGO—collaborates with local faith-based leaders, including Imams and the Darul Ifta. This partnership enables the organization to help instill a strong moral compass in children, ensuring that spiritual development complements physical and educational support.
“We work with faith-based leaders in BARMM—really the Imams and the Darul Ifta. We coordinate with them specifically on the aspect of spiritual development,” Delgado shared, emphasizing the importance of strong interfaith collaboration in the region.
Beyond peace-building, World Vision Philippines has broadened its focus to include environmental stewardship.
The organization has launched initiatives in partnership with the Cotabato City government that focus on solid waste management and promoting a circular economy.
“We also provide support within BARMM and the City of Cotabato on solid waste [management],” Delgado said, noting the expansion of their advocacy.
As World Vision Philippines continues its mission, it remains committed to nurturing a generation of responsible citizens who embody the values of peace, integrity, and hope.
