BUTUAN CITY – A newly approved P100 million eco-tourism project is expected to boost the tourism industry in Dinagat Islands province.

Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr said he welcomes the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority's approval of the Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism Development in Libjo town.

The project features a 1.8-kilometer boardwalk through a 65.50-hectare mangrove forest, leading to a water sports area. It will include rest areas and cottages for activities like canoeing.

“I personally thanked TIEZA Chief Mark Lapid for the approval of the project, as we see more positive impacts it will bring to our province, especially in the tourism industry,” Demerey said.

He also recognized the support of Dick Carmona, the secretary general for the Caraga Region of the Philippine Councilors League, for the technical support during the presentation of the said tourism project at TIEZA.

Construction is tentatively set to start in March or April, generating local jobs during and after completion.

“This project will promote sustainable tourism by highlighting conservation and environmental education, and attract eco-conscious travelers and nature enthusiasts to our province,” the governor added.
